IL LILIUM

DUEMILAVINI 2008
Located in the 'Parco di Veio' nature and archaeological park, just outside Rome, between Olgiata and Formello, this young winemaking enterprise is truly deserves crediting as noteworthy: immersed in florid flora amid unspoilt nature, the grape crop is solely treated with natural and organic products. Lilium is a pure Chardonnay, making a striking debut, elegant and complex.
LILIUM 2006
Brilliant and prairie golden. Intense aroma of peach, pear, apple, pineapple, mandarin and grapefruit. Soft and warm, but at the same time fresh and falvoursome. Truly enjoyable. Long and persistent finish, wrapped up by citrus and flint notes. Steel only, for 6 months. A fitting accompaniment of a sea-food risotto. (Ratings: 1 bottiglia e 4 grappoli)

DUEMILAVINI 2009
Hearty and slightly irrational well desribes the azienda's wines, nurtured by the able hands of Graziana Grassini, a woman enologist who combines sound technique with ambitious explorations into uncharted terriotry. The five-year-old cantina only bottles wines from its own harvest. Having recently entered production, the vinyeyard features predominantly Merlot and Cabernet grapes, alongisde smaller Chardonnay allotments. The organic spirit underpinning the cantina's philosophy totally foregoes the soil's chemical treatent. The azienda's vineyards in Scansano, Tuscan Maremma, are entering production in 2009, holding great promise for six lines of new whites and reds.
LILIUM 2007
Chardonnay is the essence of woman. Aroma delivers lychee, papaya, jasmine and moss. Vaporos even on first impact, with just a touch of flint. Lengthy and refined aroma finish with pink grapefruit end-notes. Tufa soil, eight-year-old vineyards raised on spurred cordons, delivering an 8 tonne yield. September harvest, 5-month steel tank fermenetation. Treading the new culinary theories of "subtraction" - with less being more - this Chardonnay returns to its origins: angelic in soul and no trace of muscle. Lobster aspic. (Ratings: 1 bottiglia - 4 grappoli)

Final comments
Soft and enologically sound, the 2007 Lililium delivers florid, luminous and jiucy pear and grape notes. A superior, supple and expressive white. Good.
